Blogging At This Event:
Welcome To Salute!
Welcome to Salute 2017! We’re getting ready to dive into all of the action from today including talking to the vendors and exploring what awesome gaming tables are being put together by clubs and more.
Make sure to comment below to be in with the chance of winning a mega bundle of goodies and let us know who you’d like us to meet here at the event.
Demo Tables Setting Up
One of the things that we always love seeing at Salute are the awesome gaming tables that folks set up. This is one of them, the Old Guard, which has been set up since yesterday and is looking rather spiffing.
Hopefully, later in the day we'll chat about their table and what's going on with all these hexes!
Salute Setup Time-lapse
We got down to Salute yesterday and wanted to show off a bit of the hustle and bustle from the folks setting up. The hall is MASSIVE and the vendors are putting together some great looking booths and tables.
How many of you will be coming to Salute for the first time?
Tabletops To Look Out For!
We close in on some of the cool tabletops that we’re looking forward to checking out. There are some great set-ups from the guys at 4Ground but there’s much more too.
It will be cool to stop in and find out what’s popular here and…the doors will open soon enough letting forth the horde!
Overview Before The Chaos!
Justin makes a quick trip through the huge hall for Salute to get a brief overview of what’s to come today.
From just one aisle we can really see what today has in store for us already!
The Stage Is Set For The Painting Competition
The lights are up, judges are ready, and traders are starting to fill the cabinets with their entries.
Last year was a resounding success and this year will be no exception, as entrants and winners from Golden Demon, various Slayer Sword winners, Monte San Savino, Euromillitaire, The Fang, Hussar, and other esteemed contestants will be in attendance to compete as well as with the likes of you and me the average tabletop wargamer. (ps. I haven't entered)
It’s a serious business but also a bit of fun for anyone at Salute to enter. With this in mind they have introduced a couple of new things this year to push the competition to new heights.
There is a Best of Show Trophy which will be awarded to the winner and they also get to take away with a paid for flight and transfers to enter Chicago’s CoolMiniOrNot in 2017, for the Crystal Brush competition.
Gav Thorpe Runs Open Combat
Gav Thorpe is here running his game of Open Combat by Second Thunder today at Salute This is quite the awesome game packed with some cool cinematic action moments.
It would be cool to get a closer look at this game in the future since it really does work as a toy box for wargamers.
Fancy Playing Out The Battle Of Raphia?
It looks like if you fancy delving into the world of Ancient Wargaming there is a tabletop for you to get stuck into.
This one plays out The Battle Of Raphia and shows off some awesomeness as the two armies clash with big elephants and masses of ranked spearmen.
Catching Up With The Crowds
Justin stops in and starts talking with some of the attendees that are waiting in the line to get into Salute. The event is about to kick off!
We also bump into one of our community members to see how they're getting on with the show right now.
Make Sure To Check Out ArcWorlde
Warploque Miniatures are here (we'll be catching up with them soon) and in the mean time we thought we'd dive into the little demo table that they have set up here.
These chaps have some fantastic miniatures which look like they've come from the world of Fable and brought to life on the tabletop.
The Horde Approaches Time-lapse
And so they come to buy, game and more!
We'll be diving into the crowd and starting to get some interviews done shortly so keep an eye out for more very soon.
The Flood Gates Are Open On Painting Competition Entries
The rush is on, to get entries out of their carry cases and boxes, quick fixes and touch ups done before entering them into their categories.
And if all of the changes were not enough, they have also reintroducing third place awards this year, as sometimes the cut between finalist and second place is a painful judging decision and we have listened to our previous years feedback to amend this.
Judging criteria has also been reviewed and refined (and published), as always the team of 8 judges maintain an objective decision making process, and oversee the very subjective nature of an art competition across various scales and styles.
Pinhai! Battle For The 18th Green
Twisting things about a bit one of the gaming clubs has bought along this version of Bolt Action to play out on the tabletop which takes you to the 18th Green in Pinhai!
The Japanese and Chinese are clashing here on the tabletop and it looks great.

This one looks like a lot of fun and it's all homebrew which is great!
Down In The Congo
We stop in at one of the tabletops which is running the game from Studio Tomahawk, CONGO.
This game sees your explorers heading out into the dark heart of Africa and running into Tribesmen and more.
The game seems to feature some nifty mechanics so it would be cool to know whether you folks have checked this one out in the past?
Talking AFTERLIFE With Anvil Industry
We sit down to chat with Anvil Industry about what's happening with AFTERLIFE. They've got a rather cool looking vehicle set up and are selling a fair bit of their range too.

Infinity Games Underway
We sent Dave out to find out what else is going on around the gaming tables and it turns out that as well as all of the goodness that we've seen Historically there's also some folks playing Infinity on this nice and colourful tabletop.
We think it's neat to see this game here, in a bit of a drop-in-drop-out format on the tabletop. It certainly works for character focused gameplay.

As Salute ends *cries*
We take some time out of our busy schedule to have a little talk with Mac of South London's Warlords Gaming Club to see how everything went.
We would like to thank the entire crew that made this happen, Salute would not be possible without the Warlords and we truly had a lot of fun and many happy memories made.
Remember to keep your comments coming in, we're just as blown away by the mega bundle as you are!
On my way 🙂
Guess the hangovers ain’t to bad if you got posts up this early 😉
How did @lancorz find flying lol?
All good, didn’t like it banking side to side… or the two attempts at landing.
Lol
Just imagine you’re in a rollercoaster 😉
Besides …
any landing you can walk away from is a good one 😀
Better two attempts than one complete and utter failure.
Okay… let the coverag beginn ^^
Salute 2018 in Rotterdam please :p
Utrecht would be much better … but failing that Eindhoven isn’t bad either. 😉
Utrecht would indeed be better
On my way now 🙂
Have fun guys. Wish I was there.
So I’m placing this comment with false hope that for first time in life I’ll actually win something in a lottery. Feel free to prove me that aint gonna happend.
Wish I was there but had to choose between Salute and UKGE.
Love that Frostgrave table. Looking forward to the coverage. Always so much to see so I’ll be interested to see what cool stuff you find that we haven’t seen before.
Have fun guys
I sadly can’t make it, but I wish you loads of fun and I’m looking forward to all your great pictures and videos.
Wish I could make it this year; the stars haven’t aligned correctly for a few years now, but I will be back at some point as it is a blast! Have a great day everyone!
Sweet, have a great day guys!
That’s Lloyd talk for ‘take more pictures now Dave!’
Thanks for the coverage!
What a super weekend is lined up. One day I shall attend!
One day I’ll take a trip down to Salute. It’ll happen…
Waiting for my nephew(8) to take him to his very first experience of salute after getting interested in warhammer a couple of months ago
Is this a bit like the British version of Adepticon?
Kinda of but much different. Think of the vendor area at Adepticon but 10 times bigger. Throw in full size demo tables in between in the aisles. That is Salute, no tournaments or big games. Mostly sales. It is an amazing experience and we really enjoy it. We are really sad we are not this year. It is worth the trip from the States. The Backstage meet up is always a great time. I highly recommend it to anyone.
I hope i wish be there with you next year
Wish I was going today 🙁
Wish I was going – would like someone to go to black scorpion to see if they have any more info about the tombstone kickstarter
Wish I was going, probably could have if I hadn’t spent so much ‘socialising’ this month.
Damn, ain’t been to salute in 5 years, wish I was there
Wish you were too dude
At salute, Justin I’m coming for my hug. Warren, missing you mate :p
Breakfast done so on my way . All the shiny stuff here is come hahaha
