Forge World’s Magnus The Red Coming Soon For The Horus Heresy
April 19, 2017 by brennon
Magnus The Red, now in his Horus Heresy guise, is going to be available from Forge World at Warhammer Fest this year. For all you Thousand Sons wanting a non-daemonic version of this masterful sorcerer you're now in luck!
Magnus is posed casting forth warp-given powers onto the battlefield and he is a towering figure. When next to most of the other models in the range we're informed that he is absolutely titanic in his stature.
This just means that we now have to seriously consider picking up Leman Russ and adding both of them to our Burning Of Prospero forces...
These could really work out as interesting focal points for our armies and you'd also have no problem working out who the leader was! Is this something we should be considering or do you reckon we should get the basics done first?
Let us know and maybe bring it up during Hobby Night Live next week!

It’s nice to see pre-Demon Primarch Magnus.
I always imagined Russ as older looking, with a big beard….Too many Viking thoughts going on in my head because of SAGA i suppose. Both stunning mini’s though.
I’d imagine when they get around to him 40k-era Russ will have a bit of the beard to him….
I always imagined Russ looking like the metal mini that I got in my first block of minis back in the day.
This guy looks awesome already. Can’t wait to see the community’s versions of him. The 40K Magnus has been turned into a masterpiece by some of the artists out there.
Is it me.. or that is Magneto in space marine armour?
Russ is looking good. I do like the turquoise they work into the space wolves colour scheme these days and the dull gold and red contrast makes me a fan of the colour scheme. with Magnus I like the upper body and the base but he is a little disjointed between upper and lower body and his legs are a little short if i’m going to be hyper critical. from a parallel stance with that much turn from the shoulders you should see a more 60 40 weight distribution to accommodate the twist from the hips through the knees you… Read more »
I have been waiting to see the non demon version and it looks good. Now I only have to resist not buying it.
I thought Magnus was a cyclopes and that his brothers shunned him for it, which was one of the reason why he rebelled?
He has been called the Zyclopean or something because he onlyhad one eye, he gave the other to Tzeentch (or one of his deamons) as part of a deal to save his legion from the flesh change aka mutation. And he even warned the emperor about Horus treachery but by doing that he destroyed much of the work that went into the webway project and unleashed demons into the palace this and using magic that was forbidden since the Council of Nikea made the Emperor sent the Wolves to Prospero to bring Magnus back to Terra, but Horus changed that… Read more »
No he didn’t really rebel, he was turned on and he wasn’t Cyclops. Tho his Epic Daemon prince model showed him as so, but even that was after he ascended to Daemonhood. He was born with 2 eyes but because the Thousand Sons geneseed was so unstable they were very prone to mutation they called the flesh change. So Magnus traded one of his eyes to a warp entity(Tzeentch) to save his sons from the Mutation. He broke the edict of Nikea to warn his father about Horus’s corruption so Leman Russ and his dogs were sent to bring Magnus… Read more »
Yes, surely he should only have one eye here? He lost the eye early on (as soon as he realised he couldn’t fix the geneseed). Way before Russ attacked him.
But you’d expect FW would know this, so I’m a little confused …
Magnus is my favourite primarch of all. He tried to do the right thing, got stiffed by Tzeentch, Horus and finally Russ. Also he’s the nerdy bookish one. I reckon this will be my first purchase from this series.
Also thanks, sculptor, for omitting the nipple-horns 🙂
Agree – very Magneto and Russ is very Young Thor – I always imagined him Ragnar Blackmane/ Braveheart 🙂
Imagine Fulgrim painted candy-metallic red – Awesome 🙂
I like the sculpt a lot, a little understated but definately fitting the character. I think Simon said something about 2 possible heads as like the Emperor Magnus looked slightly different to each person looking at him.
I hoped Magnus would have more of purposefully striding stance.
The legs seem kinda short. Really want to see him up and close to form a final verdict.
Talk about cool looking.
No chest horns = Not Magnus.
I hate that the option at least, is not given.
He could also do with Loki-style horns on his crown.
Magnus’ decision to leave the arms off his power armour gives the impression that he’s wearing a waistcoat. Once you realise this, his armoured legs become flared jeans and the way he wears his long, long hair all makes sense. Magnus is the frontman of an early seventies rock band.
Non-daemon Magnus looks good. I like how they have used the terrain to demonstrate his psychic powers.
he looks great and the two of them can be used as he turns more in to the big guy when spell casting.
Really nice mini, looks far nicer than the demonised version. I’d be tempted to convert it somehow so that wings could be magnetised onto it to represent him in his demon incarnation (as per one or two of the illustrations in the old HH artwork book which have his demonised form as being like his original form but with wings).
