Hobby Lab Open Challenge: Shades Of Spring
March 20, 2017 by lancorz
As we enter into a period of new life and leave Winter behind we're often hit with inspiration brought on by a change of season into Spring.
Much like with the in-between moments during battles where the blood vanishes and the snowdrops appear on the ground, this new challenge encapsulates everything that is new in life. We're looking for anything that captures new life bursting onto the tabletop.
What Is Shades Of Spring?
Before you begin thinking of Spring daffodils and daisies this isn't particular assigned to the weather or season itself. This is a challenge that can be focused in on any time of year and we want to see terrain based on your Sci-Fi worlds, vast deserts, Steampunk factories and moments of horror too!
As long as the focus is on something new coming to life on the tabletop we're all for it so let your imagination run wild with this one.
When Does It End?
Our end date this time is the beginning of Summer Solstice, June 21st so you have plenty of time to get your hands dirty and those green fingers exercised. Make sure to create your own topic in our Hobby & Painting Forums with the "Shades of Spring" tag in the topic.
As per usual, there are four categories:
- Best Idea
- Best Executed
- Best Project Log on the Forums
- Junior Beast
With an additional fifth one being tied in with the Ultimate Terrain Maker Finalist.
Judges
We have the usual suspects judging our entries who are...
- Members of the BoW Team
- Members of 4Ground
- Mel TheTerrainTutor
- Bill from Terrainaholic
There are some awesome prizes up for grabs this time again, with 4Ground sponsoring a £50 gift voucher for each winner and a recognised spot in the Beasts of War Community for the excellence of your work!

What are you waiting for? Let's get involved!
Welll I better SPRING into action then…
I’ve got a shoe box of Dark Eldar in a mass grave configuration.
I call it ‘Slannesh springs into life…”
(well, perhaps not)
you guys need a extra catogory for 3d printed stuff
We try and mix that into what people are already doing. You can for example make quite the interesting project log if you were to follow the design and building of 3D printed terrain and it’s outcome.
