Hunker Down Behind Your Norman Shields From Tabletop Art
March 15, 2017 by brennon
Tabletop Art has added some more shield options to their store with these new Norman Kite Shields popping up for your warriors in 28mm scale. Take a look...
The first set gives you eight different Kite Shields for you to use with your Normans. Due to the less over the top and extravagant look, these might be good for some of your rank and file troops or indeed for someone who wants to have a go at some freehand work. Maybe transfers are more your thing!
You can also get some with sculpted details too, as the second set shows off.
Some of these shields feature some added detail to make them more impressive. You could use these for your Warlord and his trusted retainers as they mount up and get ready for battle.
The shield, at least in this design, was used to protect the flank of the rider as you turned to move away from your foe. Using a hit and run tactic the Normans were able to slowly pick away at shield walls, turning after launching their strike with the shield protecting both them and their horse.
This is the tactic that was said to have made the Anglo-Saxons break at Hastings and fall out of formation.
What do you think of the shield designs?
