Oriskany's El Alamein Campaign Continues - The British Kick Ass!

Much like in the actual Battle of El Alamein the British are kicking ass. It's nice to be historically accurate!

How will fortunes change as they move towards the next stage of the campaign and play out some more games on the tabletop.

With the British having the upper hand operationally will they keep their composure or drive into the heart of the German army like madmen.

...we'll leave that up to the Boot Campers.

Awesome report. The campaign adds so much more flavor. Great idea. Will you be posting the campaign rules sometime down the road?

Seriously, there really aren’t much in the ways of rules. The winner of a given battle is the “attacker” in the next battle and gets to determine where the next battle takes place. When in doubt, roll off. Add up wins and losses. There, campaign rules. posted. 😀

I also thought the DAK would do better.

Ouch. Hopefully it won’t be a total route in the next round.

Surprising outcome so far.

No surprise the DAK are getting slaughtered if the British & Commonwealth forces have 17/25pdr ATG. Killing power so is extreme compared to the 6pdr they ought to have. Historically accurate outcome though means of getting there probably unreasonable.

I’m enjoying the event and the new rules appear great fun.

THIS . . . is very true. the 17lbr doesn’t come out until Tunisia later in early 1943. But still, with the Germans and their 88s on the table, it helps to have game balance.

I wonder if it’s a sign that one stater force is a little better then the other?

I do not like the grant/lee tank design but I would not discount the punch it packs against the little armour the PZ III and PZ IV have at this time of the conflict.

Probably a stupid question: Allies have 16 tanks, 4 field guns and 2 AT guns whereas Germans have 13 tanks, 4 field guns and 2 AA/AT guns: are the points values the same?

Actually, @dorthonion , the smaller German force costs more in points. I honestly don’t know of the prices of some of the British units, especially the Grants and 25 pounders, should be jacked up just a little. Also, the the Germans have some upgrades to the PzKpfw III and IV they can take. Finally, some British units have penalties like 2, 6, and 17-pounders that have no HE shells, only AT ammunition (i.e., it’s tough to engage soft targets like infantry. The Germans also have some BOSS morale and remount rules. They never run away, you basically have to kill… Read more »

Probably more the effect of 88s in the wrong place one the battlefield. They’ll kill anything they see, but if you deploy them in the wrong place!!!!!! ……eggs in one basket problem. But that happens in games where an army gets very powerful/high cost units (Knights in the Crusade era same issue, they can’t be everywhere). Equipment vs historical ToEs always going to be an issue in a game that playing with toy soldiers and point values. Be a pretty boring game if you had a Tiger I vs Crusaders, so some liberties have to be taken. However, nothing wrong… Read more »
