A new RPG exploring the world of the Cthulhu Mythos will be making its way onto Kickstarter tomorrow, bringing the horrors of Loevcraft to 1910. Are you ready to become one of the Raiders of R'lyeh?

Raiders of Rlyeh

1910 is definitely an interesting era of history, with tensions between nations as empires try to hold on to their territory and power and tensions start to build towards war. Meanwhile governments start to face a growing pressure and presence from the lower classes and both the Chinese and Russian ruling elite have only a few more years left. Sounds like a good time for Cthulhu to appear, right?

"RAIDERS of R’LYEH is a stand-alone roleplaying game and sourcebook in which mercenary rogues EXPLORE FORBIDDEN FRONTIERSUNEARTH ANCIENT ARTIFACTS, andOUTWIT VILLAINOUS SCUM. Derived partly from the Runequest rules that have been released under the Open Game License, the game is crafted to emulate not only adventure in the Cthulhu Mythos of H.P. Lovecraft and his circle of influences, but especially the savage and evocative feel of Robert E. Howard’s Mythos and Weird menace stories."

The book will provide you with all the rules and details you need to get gaming in this pre-war era, whether using Raiders of R'lyeh as a sourcebook or as a roleplaying game in itself.

Inside you will find details on campaigns, criminal empires, mysterious organisations and, of course, those classic tentacled monsters which crawled out of your nightmares.

There are a lot of Cthulhu-esque games out there, but still I find myself drawn to this one. Partly due to the background and concept, but also because of the great artwork and visuals we have presented with so far.

What should separate Raiders of R'lyeh from other Lovecraftian games is its focus upon the age of exploration and what was going on in the world outside that which is usually covered in the Cthulhu Mythos. This artwork really captures this and does get me rather hyped for its appearance on Kickstarter tomorrow.

What are your thoughts? Will this game raise itself above its compatriots? Be sure to check out the Kickstarter when it goes live this Monday.
