The Convergence Continue Their Warmachine Invasion
July 9, 2013 by brennon
Three new sets are on their way for the Convergence of Cyriss and they are looking fantastic as always. This faction is looking insanely stunning from Privateer Press...
First up we have the Reflex Servitors and the Reductors. The first of which intelligently flies around the battlefield looking for an opponent to explode upon. A nice bit of selfless sacrifice for the good of the Convergence is always welcome.
The Reductors are a backbone of clockwork soldiers that form up to keep the Convergence in working order. They come with those nice wrist mounted blades and guns too, very nice indeed. They look awesome too.
The Algorithmic Dispersion Optifex are looking fascinating too...
"Among the most important but demanding tasks carried out by the living priests of the Convergence is the deployment of algorithmic dispersion arrays—devices that increase the reach of a warcaster’s arcane spells well beyond normal tolerances. By carefully modulating the dispersion array’s frequencies, the optifex acts as a transmitter through which the warcaster can bolster his battlegroup or strike down enemy targets."
Is it just me who thinks that these would be perfect for adding in as potential figures for the Inheritance list we are writing with you Backstagers?
The Convergence continue to rule and look out for a lot more content on these guys in the near future.
What do you think of them?
This is a hit and miss release. The servitors look bland where as that solo looks so cool with that big old fashion boxing ring microphone. Come on guys look at it, you can see it right?
I think this set of releases raises some serious questions about PP’s ability to scale their operation. The Convergence releases have been consistently pretty good up until this point (the colossal notwithstanding). But this batch is a whole lot of bland. The Reductors are all flavors of boring: static poses, very little surface detail, very little anything really. The Servitors are just little balls with buttons on them (I hope that kit is priced accordingly). The Optifex, in particular, is very awkwardly posed, like a GI-Joe action figure stuck down on those little pegs in the floor of the HQ… Read more »
I agree and disagree…
Very few of the Convergence models have struck my fancy so far. In my opinion, all the units are bland, and only some of the solos have anything going for them. Not much, and not many.
It doesn’t help that the official studio paint-jobs are SO BAD, and promoting a tabletop slap-dash way of painting that, although less intimidating to teh beginner, ultimately hurts the hobby simply by not provinding anything nice ot aspire to and setting the newbee painter’s aim right back at “toylike”.
Just like White Dwarf, really. I am dejected.
It might be that I’m a sucker for art deco, but most of the Convergence units up to this point have caught my fancy (the sculpts at least, I agree on the paint). But I think the main concern right now (both with PP and GW) is production scale. They’re both doing so much all at once that I think the quality of their studio work is suffering under the load. PP is introducing more new product each month this year than they ever have before. GW is revamping larger and larger portions of their existing line it seems with… Read more »
Oh, I love Art Deco… I’ve loved their most Art Deco models, including some of the Vectors, but the basic troops are nothing special, and the poses and sculpts of many of the models are rather sub-par. I think it’s all a matter of taste, really.
I completely agree with your comment on quantity and quality.
Bah I quite like the Optifex. He looks like what would happen if you mixed Dead Space with Bioshock and gave him a gravity hammer from Halo. My impression of him was as you say, that he had jumped down or indeed landed from a height and was steadying himself.
I think the Reductors look neat too…but that’s just me lol.
BoW Ben
That solo looks very nice and those Reductors are also good. Servitors are weakest of those.
I just love this faction. I think the poses suit the idea of slightly awkward mechanical constructs with a limited set of movements and/or non human ranges of movement and made from a standard template. All those nuances come across in the Reductors.
I’m with Ben on this……would make a fantastic addition to the inheritors faction. Maybe an extreme version of the Iron hands hook of strength from bionics….marine conciousness in a mechanical body.
