Gotta say well done @johnlyons that was very enjoyable!
Does anyone know if welds etc were used in the 40 imperium, could you use this technique to pimp out leman russ or land raiders etc/
Don’t the tech Priests just pray over metal and join it that way, after all blind faith is stronger than any metal. 🙂
I make green stuff welds on my tanks. Looks good.
Its simple but adds that little bit more. I don’t even think the 1/48 Tamiya kits have great detail in my opinion.
You’re concerned about realism in a world with geneseeds and orks ? Do as you please…
This would look great on my ork models! I’ve been building my own models recently (or at least heavily modifying them) and this would help all that plastic card look even more realistic!
Good one @johnlyons!
Oh and John great tutorial, thanks for the tips.
Nice one
nice comeback vid john. now all we need is a certain cheesemaster with 40k tips and the circle will be something something…comm pleet /emperor palpatine
More please! I’ve just base coated my T-34/85 so this has appear just in time. I’d been trying to work out how to do this so thanks.
Great idea. I might try this for the mountain of Brit tanks I’ve just bought from Walord.
I found this a while back: a four part show of a Japanese modeller making a 1:48 Tamiya Sherman diorama. It’s pretty hilarious, but he does the same technique near the end of this video.

I think most of us will recognise some of the music from Star Ship Troopers… the Casper Van Dien movie…
It’s stuff like this that makes me with I understood Japanese, but it does show some interesting techniques. (please forgive me, my far eastern brothers and sisters if it’s this isn’t Japanese. We in the west can be a bit stupid (ignorant about these things…. lolz Now where did I leave that Japanese language course CD? hmmmn.
The best bit of the video has to be John’s face when he’s introducing the video right at the beginning
Just tried this. A little fiddly, particularly on entirely flat surfaces but it does look the part. It really does help add to the realism of good, but ‘perfect’, Warlord minis. Thanks again.
Hey there, welcome back ! 🙂
I loved the history lesson… Nice video. And nice shirt !
Love the start! Great tip, easily applied to Warmachines of any game as well
An other reason the Backstage pass pay off 🙂 cheers @johnlyons
Really nice to see an old face. Still remember you first video and you looked as if you were going to pass out from fear. You’ve come a long way from that day.
Thanks dude, yeah I can remember being in something of a panic during my first videos. Its great to see the feedback and support. I am glad I can still bring you all something enjoyable!
Hurray!!! John is back! I love seeing a fellow treadhead and hearing little bits about tanks.
Very nice video and congrats on the return to the site. I look forward to more technique videos and hope to hear how your tread project is coming along.
In honour of this rather awesome video, I thought id start a thread, show us your welding skills http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/backstage-green-room/forum/topic/show-us-your-welds/
good to see you back John, great vid keep’em coming.
cheers

“I’m not really sorry”? hahaha that made me lol… hahaha. But again – great little history lesson and bit of technical knowledge , oh and the modelling advice is good too… hahaha (lolz) It’s funny… it’s such a tiny little bit of detail that I would think you’d hardly notice it and it’s barely worth it but I guess if you can be bothered it is. I’m just lazy , that’s all ……… and I’m not much of a Tread Head. I do appreciate a nice Warhammer 40k tank tho! I guess these FOW tanks can sort’ve double as tanks… Read more »
this whole serie of tank tips is really good. The only thing i miss really is some good photos at the end when the tanks are painted and done. That way we get to see how the green stuff weldlines and the textured casting looks or should look as a reference.
Cheers and keep them comming. Wonderful and inspirational pieces.
