Hmmmmm….The video doesn’t seem to be showing up,
Great tips! Would be interesting to see one about shading with pigments.
Great video Romain, but please never ever ever use the phrase “Whoopsie daisies” on camera ever again EVER!!! us gamers struggle as it is with reputation. hehe 😀
Before this video, I used to but neat paint on my brush, then wind my arm up, whilst gently stepping closer to the mini. The RPM of my arm (which rotated about my shoulder) enabled me to dry the paint on the brush after just a few seconds.
WARNING: High ceilings are a must for my technique, so you may want to ensure you have more than the 2.4m typical headroom in your house before experimenting with my method 😛
I had a technique of my own. Place the brush handle into the grip of a power drill. dip brush in paint and turn on drill. The paint would make a massive platter… on everything. Please place news paper on your stuff or suffer the splatter.
So the key to good dry brushing is to do it in stages just like highlights. I may use it more often now that I see that it can look nice on some things.
I certainly view dry brushing in a different light now and will have to go and improve my technique thanks
Excellent as always Romain, but I’m always uncertain as to when to use dry brushing vs. highlighting/blending. Any advice?
Thanks a lot for your kind words !
As I said, it’s about what texture you want… Blending and gradients are good for smooth textures, dry-brushing has a dusty, rough, stony quality.
BoW Romain
Finally! I’ve been telling people drybrushing is as a good technique as any other when used properly for years. But professional painters everywhere shun it. Thank you Romain, it’s always good to know you’re not alone.

How about a gaggle of orcs?
Nice one !
A murder of crows, a futility of husbands, a gaggle of orcs…
It sounds about right !
Great stuff as always Romain, the banner has a really nice effect to it. will try some of these tips out soon 🙂
I have never used used water when drybrushing! Love the technique here. Maybe I’ve been doing it wrong for years?
No, you’re fine. 🙂
