I’ve never ever liked the bright green orc. They just look comical and really take away from the look of the game.
Btw: Love the shirt. Where can I get one?
Aha !
I won’t advertise merchandise in comments…
But google is your friend.
some sort of algae in the ork blood is the reason why they are green. its in the 40k ork codex. but if you ask me, paint it, whatever color you like, because thats the only important thing. YOU have to like it. and i really do like your very natural look. well, as natural as is gets, when you are painting a fantasy miniature.
Yes… Whatever. Some sort of algae (blue algae, green algae or red algae, that is the question…) is in their blood, which is nonetheless red in the art, in the video games, on tables everywhere… yet’ they’re green…
They breed through fungi, or something, that’s why there are no orc females…
It makes no sense. None of it does. And no one cares.
Thanks for the kind words, at any rate !

Great tutorial and I can’t wait to see the rest^^ altough for some reason, this particular vid takes ages to load for me, literaly two hoursO_o Painting green skin is actualy my favorite part when it comes to painting orks. But as much as I love spending time mixing different colours to get mye orks to look a bit more realistic (greenish erm… hues I think is the word?), I simply don’t have the time for that when painting my standard ork boyz (space orks). Since I need so many, it would take ages and I would be playing with… Read more »
Thanks !
I’m sorry it took so long for you to load the video… I assure you however it is probably only a fluke.
Try pre-shading your miniatures instead of priming black (see my tutorial about that)…
…then using washes of olive green (or some equivalent color) to give the skin its basic tone, and Hull Red (or any dark brownish red) in the deepest recesses.
You’ll get an interesting tabletop result that’s more realistic than goblin green/thraka green. It’s less… vegetable-like. We’re painting orcs, not courgettes.

Well, they are at about the same level of inteligence anyway:P
But thanks for the tips, as soon as I can afford more painting stuff I will try these thing out^^
(currently I can’t afford anyhing since my hobby budget went into a new PC)
Great video again Romain, I actually bought the mantic warpath orc hero thingy as a bit of a project and have a beige/khaki skin colour in mind for him.
very nice start.
