We're back again to join Romain as he continues to paint the Iosian Mage Hunter Commander from Privateer Press.
If you missed any of the parts of Romain painting this superb model just click below:
Very good video. Simple paint scheme and techiques that give a really nice finished mini. I like the way you justify your colour placement and techniques with a bit of theory.
yay, more painting tutorials! I would like to know what ya’ll think of the P3 stuff, mainly since I am getting in a paint order here in a few days with it 😛
Romain is the guy to tell you about paint. To summon him, just type @elromanozo
The BoW summoning system does the rest! 😉
Answer, and I shall obey, O Master…
All kidding aside, the P3 paints are brilliant… The pigments are extremely rich, they have all the GW colors and more (including other cool tones specially designed for their range of miniatures, such as the Trollblood skin color or the dark greenish gold of Cryx…). Painting with them is a true joy… However, the pots aren’t as cool as the drop bottles from Vallejo.
Still, very cool paint !

Romain, you are going to become a good friend of mine haha, I just started using Vallejo mainly cuz of what I saw you doing with them on the grey knights, P3 will most likely be the same, and ive had a little bit of an issue with one of my vallejo bottles with the paint clumping a tiny bit before the end of the tube and me needing to squeeze a little bit more and plump, glob of paint, it still ends all good cuz i use it all, so yah…
random rant
This issue with Vallejo is easily corrected with a pin or needle inserted into the tube, and/or wiping the drop-dispenser before closing… Usually, one doesn’t need to, but some pots are stubborn. My black does that.
Be careful when you do it that you haven’t pressed the pot too much, or you could be looking at a sudden mess expelled right from it…
Happy painting !

Yeah! Finally the long wait ends.
Nice work Romain. Your skills are very top notch.
damn I need to wait for part 3! Great work @elromanozo
Thank you everyone for all your praises ! It’s always appreciated…
BoW Romain
wow gr8 work
a great watch showing some cool tips for washing mini with a new shade
I’ll be painting up a full Retribution army soon, including this model, so this is pretty damn good to see it done in so much detail
Thank you !
I’m only trying to show how to do it without any major difficulties, with simple techniques everyone can do… There’s no subtle glazes (well, not too much), no special freehand, no itsy-bitsy details, and you can do it in one afternoon, maybe two !
If you think there’s a lot of detail on this, it goes to show anyone can do something fancy with a little patience and time.

Tres bien Romain!
Was looking forward to part 2 for some time now. How about trying some Finecast next time or at some point? Might be good to compare the details in a painting vid.
Makes me almost want to look at the PP stuff abit closer!
You know, I just might !
I approve of the move to resin… It’s what GW should have done years ago. Shame about the price, but hey, if people are willing to pay…

Im a newb, what sort of paints are better to use would you say Vallejo or Citadel or another?.
I might do an article on paints, at some point, to answer just that… In the meantime, GW colors are expensive and not too good, even though they have pre-mixed washes suited for beginners… I suggest you get Vallejo instead : they’re inexpensive, and they come in drop bottles that contain more paint. Do your washes yourself by mixing paint and water ! Other range of note : Privateer Press has done P3 paint, and they’re very very good, even if they don’t come in drop bottles. You can also buy water based acrylic paint un tubes or pots from… Read more »
And can you suggest any paint brush sets? :p thanks for your quick reply, appreciate it man.
@murrayh, you want to refer to the comments on the first step of this tutorial… You’ll find your brushes !

Keep painting 🙂
BoW Romain
They are nice paints which sadly have become expensive and are packed badly
the paint itself is nice – just the rest that lets it down
I agree the packaging and pots are a disappointment !

I use Andrea miniatures range of paints, which also come in the handy, dropper style bottles, well worth a looksee. Andrea have a fantastic range of colours but for the full set, it can be quite expensive…Still, Andrea are well worth bearing in mind when buying your paints. Yes, Andrea has a very wide range… If you don’t like to mix paints and you want to get a pot of your favorite tone premixed, chances are it’s in their catalog somewhere !
