How you go about building a freehand pattern continues to fascinate me and I learn a bit more every time (this pattern still scares the hell out of me however ….. I am worried I’d forget to breathe 😉 ) Thanks again Romain, I am glad to see this series continuing.
Thank you very much ! 🙂
Breathing is important. Getting oxygen to the brain allows for better focus. I find that exhaling during a brush stroke makes me slightly more precise… it forces me to relax and think about breathing. I only do it when I need to be extra EXTRA careful.
Of course, you might have a completely different idea, and it’d be fine.
Amazing freehand . . . he makes it look so easy! Actually, it may seem obvious, but note how Romain always has his mini “mounted” on a cork or old bottle or something, up at roughly eye-height. Speaking only for myself, I always used to make the mistakes of either . . . (a) trying to hold it one hand and paint with the other – okay, that’s TWO hands to keep steady . . . (b) just having the mini on the table and having to bend way down to paint it, hurting eyes, back, and shoulders. Stage the… Read more »
Cheers @oriskany that’s great advice …….. (and breathing I have to remember the breathe 😉 )
Thanks a bunch !
Actually, the big can as a stand is for the cameras… it keeps everything nice and in shot. At home, I have my own setting, which is pretty much “on the table”, but I have a very low chair so as not to utterly destroy my own backbone.
Honestly, it’s not just about miniatures : finding the good height for tables and chairs is paramount to having less back problems, in our age of sitting at computers without end ! A good painting space starts with a good chair.
a fabulous intricately detailed emblem, romain that looks great finished.
Thanks, faithful viewers !
As you can see, it’s only a couple of circles, lines and brackets. Just add claws. The only difficulty is the dragon’s head, and it’s not really a huge challenge if you’ve framed it properly. It’s all about geometry and reducing a drawing to its simplest elements.
And once again I am just blown away by this. These videoes are a huge help and inspiration for freehand newbies like me. Thank you!
