Romain returns for a another full 3 Colours Up painting extravaganza!
This time he'll be painting the fabulous Nomads character... Bran Do Castro... but in the style of the Monkey King!
As alway well worth a watch even if you don’t play the game in question
OMG A PAINTING THING FOR NON-BACKSTAGERS! 😀 😀 😀 😀
Just like all the full 3 Colours Up videos are… only the 3 Colours Tips are backstage videos.
Nice one, keep it up 🙂
Peachy! 😀
(hopes someone gets the Hanuman reference!)
I certainly do ! Actually, the pilgrim monkey is one of my favorite tales.

Looks really well, I find the fixing of mistakes extremely important part of the section, its one of the important parts of learning to paint but is usually ignored in tutorials.
Whats with the monkey king obsession all of the sudden? League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, and now Beasts of War all doing Sun Wukong stuff at the same time
Coincidence, mainly.
The miniature from Infinity isn’t that recent, and this is one of the first video tutorials they filmed me doing… So it’s been in the BoW vault for a while now.
Asian myths are cool, though, don’t you think ?

Anymore vids like this and i’ll have to stop watching television altogether. And I don’t even play the game.
Nice to see how you work with a white undercoat. I allways use black, I just cant get the mini right if I prime white. Struggling with some Bretonnians with a white undercoat to get the heraldy colours nice and vivid, but it feels like I cant get the shading right. Maybe black is best for a lazy painter like me.
Stick to it, you’ll get there ! Shading is best done with washes, and mostly not with black, incidentally.

Very nice video. I´ve been working while listening to it instead of the radio, it was very nice.
We want moar!!
I agree it is cool, i was just wondering if something was going on that was provoking all the Monkey King stuff that i wasnt aware of.
Yes all this monkey king stuff is because it just so happens its the year of the monkey, with the month of the monkey, on the day of the monkey, on the hour of the monkey. It only happens like never!
I wish these were uploaded more frequently, I always enjoy Romain’s painting vids. Being able to watch you paint is quite therapeutic, not to mention your asides are funny and helpful! Roll on the next episode.
We would do more, but they take a long time to film and edit… especially when you consider it take approximately 4 mins to edit 1 min of video.
I can imagine it’d be a long process. I didn’t mean to sound ungrateful, I just think the vids are awesome!
Don’t worry @jumpmonkey, we got your meaning… And I’m very flattered !

To Romain: Please for the love of god roll up the sleeves on your shirt. It pains me to see you try to pull them up the whole time instead of just unbuttoning them and folding them up. Or just take off the shirt in the first place and sit in a t-shirt. Not trying to make this into a sexy show 🙂 but it looks like you are really uncomfortable do it all the time and Im uncomfortable watching it. And allot of time is wasted for you doing this. And another thing. When I paint I want everything… Read more »
I don’t think there’s a lot of things in the video that distracts you from the actual painting… If you want something cut next time around, or things speeded up, take it to the editing team (and they already did a great job so far IMHO). Considering the studio arrangements, the shape of the table and my painting habits, my setting is quite all right. I thank you for your concern, but I assure you I am not in any kind of pain… And the palette is less than a foot from the miniature at all times. I know my… Read more »

Excellent, indeed 🙂
I’m very much looking forward to the next 2 parts.
Really nice to watch other people paint. You recognise moves you yourself unconsciously do when painting and always learn something new. Thank you for that, BoW and Romain. I am looking forward to the finished miniature and the next 2 vids. Nonetheless I have to wholeheartedly and sincerely disagree with the claim that washes (and by extension even Army Painter Dip) are just for the lazy and/or the beginner. These are simply further tools in our painting tool box and they can be used in many different ways. They are not as straightforward a medium as they suggest to be.… Read more »
I suppose I could be branded as “experienced” when it comes to painting.
I use AP dip almost exclusively, because I just have no time to wash & blend.
I do paint using washes and blending the odd time, just to prove to Romain that I can do it, but I don’t make a habit of it!
Viva la dip revolution!
I agree ! Washes can be used very potently on a miniature… SOME washes are clearly designed for beginners, and, by their very use, they allow people with little training to achieve tabletop result in little time. That’s good, even though that use of a wash is clearly “for beginners”…
That isn’t to say they aren’t proper tools and that they can’t be used any other way. I applaud the variety of products we can use nowadays…
BoW Romain
Viva la dip revolution indeed!
Glad I misunderstood your stance toward washes and dips. 🙂 The variety of products at the moment is indeed wonderful. Also, don’t forget, you must be an extreme hobbyist and hardcore painter to withstand the smell of Badab Black and Devlan Mud! 🙂
Romain is French?! Who’d have thought!
Very nice.
