I like the color scheme for this paint job and the subtle buildup of light and dark washes. I never used purple that much on miniatures, since it can look a bit garish. But it works great when applied carefully.
Looking at the image of the final result I might like the current state of the mini more than the finished one. I am never too fond of hard black and white contrasts.
Thanks ! 🙂
And, yes, to each his own… The miniature was decent tabletop in its first stages, nothing is stopping you if you want to stop there… The teaching is not just in the result, but in the process : you learn stuff every step of the way. In fact, I am not super-fond of the end result myself… I could have done things a lot better.
Loving the process… Your an inspiration :o)
I will wait with proper comment till last part, but to be honest I painted my in ‘close to’ standard plague colours and I love it, but I much more to see different visions from standard or official painting sheme. cheers

Nice and strange are you going to hare yellowish highlights to make it the ultimate angry bruise?
You’ll have to see it through to find out ! 🙂
We won’t be disappointed.
Thanks guys ! You’re awfully nice ! 🙂
I have some Rackham Daikinee minis that may benefit from using this technique on their scarab armor. Any suggestions on painting luminous wings and shiny beetle bits?
Always love seeing your approach to painting and it was good to see a wet wash highlight. So many times I dry brush to get that lighter highlight, but it seems to blend better using a more transparent, watered down paint. Thanks much for the ideas~
Ah, Rackham ! It takes me back…
Thanks for the kind words ! As for shiny beetle bits, I’ll perhaps do in another tutorial. In the meantime, just as a short piece of advice, you can experiment with adding a tinge of metallic paint in your highlights. You can also play around with inks.
Happy painting ! 🙂
Always enjoy these tutorials.
Roman has the most soothing voice. I don’t know if it’s something about painting or the timbre of certain accents, but there was an American guy on TV that would paint landscapes in oil years ago – his voice was similarly relaxing.
I guess you are talking about Bob Ross – huuuuge amount of hair on it’s head? I loved his shows – very relaxing to listen to his voice and watching him paint.
The Romain/Bob Ross comparison is a common – and entirely correct – one. Excellent stuff as ever Romain!
Beautiful work, I painted mine in the more traditional colours (if there are some), but I have to say I love the paint scheme you came up with.
This piece looks phenomenal! If you do decide to paint another one you should see if Mantic would give you the kickstarter exclusive resin one – the details on it are incredible.
