best miniature amry ever
simon aproach (the first i guess)
PS english is not my first language
First one! Simon I think.
I’m surprised that no foundation paints were used
The first one looked better, so my vote is for Simon
Painting on camera must be pant wettingly scary – good job folks 🙂
as an alternative for orc skin I like Knarlock Green and highlight with a mix of Knarlock and Gretchin Green and a devlan mud wash … (I like the Foundation range :))
I prefered Simons approach, Toms was just a bit too dark for my liking.
As a speed painting technique, Simon’s approach is better, because it has better results in less time and without the need to be more precise… Tom’s mini could have looked better, but that would have forced him to apply his paint more carefully, and since this is speed painting it’s hardly the point.
i liked tom’s ork better, although i would have chosen a lighter basecoat for its skin..
Simon’s approach led to a better result, though, only, because Tom did the highlights a little bit to rough. Applying the highlights more carefully (and maybe using a color that is not that bright in contrast to the base color) should give you much better results. In general, base color + highlights + wash should lead to better results than just base color + wash. I guess both competitors suffered from being filmed – so overall, well done 🙂 As Warren said, for real speed painting, why not use a color primer from Armypainter. It works splendid for Orcs, but… Read more »
I would say Simon’s approach is the preferable, but I when I do my SW I paint them with my base color and then wash followed by a light drybrush with almost the same color as the base color, to me that’s the best way to get a good tabletop result.
I liked both models, but for my taste Simon’s was brighter. I work from a white/light undercoat so both of these were interesting to watch. Thanks guys.
I liked Tom’s I personally felt the bright hi-lights kind of looked like warpaint.
I liked Simon’s basing more however.
i think toms would look good with war paint. the blue would add colour
but simons is better for boys, toms is good for black orcs and warboss’ since they have darker skin
The screaming in this video sounded like he was a chipmunk. Was that on purpose or was his yelling just destroying the bottom end on the mic soall we hear is high end noise?
I prefered Tom’s orc with Simon’s basing. Also I think Tom would be a great presenter on BoW given a regular spot.
Would like to see a non speed painted mini by these 2 guys too!
i liked the flesh and base that simon did but the weapons and armour that tom did.
I like Simon’s type of orc best. It looks great and it also takes 15 minutes to paint 10 =). Anywho, can you do the same thing only with the gobbos instead of orcs
Toms would make a great basis for Black orcs but I agree it’s a bit dark for a Savage Orc. So, Simon’s I guess. But, 2 things – one, lets have some more colour, I think brightly coloured clothing on Orcs works really well, and 2, black bases just look unfinished. Otherwise good speed efforts from both, well done. 😉
Have a nice community Idea.
BoW chooses from the community 100 members. Send him/her one plastic orc to be painted by this member. After 1-2 Weeks of painting, the user sends the miniature back. So BoW will have a big army of Orks made by the community.
I know and understand that this is a big administratively an pricey afford. But I would pay for the back sending of the miniature.
Vote for Simon. 🙂
The first one was faster but the second was more defined I also liked the darker ork flesh it would be a good idear to use army painter paint because it has a faster drying time but in the end my favorite was the 2nd paint job great tuteorial thanks guys
hey guys thanks for all the comments ill be posting up some of my models in minirama if you feel like having a gander they will be in the fantasy section i think. also would love more spots on BoW doing proper detailed work as painting is one of my favourite things to do. and the camera does make you nervous lol
Excellent idea for a 3 Colors Up! I’d have to say Simon’s approach is more applicable across an army where speed painting is the goal. Typically whenever you do washes, you want to start with a brighter color than you intend the finished model to have, as the wash will tone the brightness back a fair bit, as both guys said. Basecoat+highlight+wash=great tabletop quality. Some more tips for army painting in general: GW Foundation paints help speed the process up a bit more, as does a larger brush for basecoating. Work from the inside of the model out, that way… Read more »
I liked Simon’s approach better. Tom was pretty good on camera though and I would watch more from either one.
What a cool pair of dudes. I thought both approaches were quality! Keep up the re-runs BOW 🙂
