Have you just woken up, Justin?
think i had that day 🙂
So had I… but I hadn’t been editing until the wee hours of the morning the day before !
It’s nice to see Justin in this one, it feels much more a tutorial than just a demonstration of how to improve her. Keep this format up with ER! I look forward to seeing the rest.
Actually Justin, I think the browns – especially on the Khadoran rifleman – aren’t too bad. It’s a nice leather effect and better than what I could pull off 🙂
I don’t know why you don’t base your minis, though 😉
You could always glue them onto a transparent acrylic base and I think that’s a particularly good choice for an RPG miniature since you don’t need to worry about having a base that matches with the other minis on the table.
Really enjoyed this one guys – looking forward to the next installment.
“. . . Badly battered miniature from Justin’s horde of prisoners!” Epic tagline.
ER’s a great series, who doesn’t have a box of train-wreck miniatures around somewhere that could use a little help?
Great video guys and every day Romain is looking more and more like a dapper Victorian gentleman. Romain please please wear a top hat and monocle for your next video 🙂
“Justin! What . . . what happened? This is . . . this is DECENT?”
See that’s there’s hope for all of us. 😀
This is a very godd idea for a serie.
Justin you save me. Hope is now for me too.
I was expecting Romain to be tearing into Justin’s paintwork but, no, I agree with everyone – those are pretty good.
But even without a comedy bollocking, Justin sitting in is a great idea.
Those are looking good Justin. Not quite fancy whisker man standard but it’s certainly progress.
Yey! more Romain content!
I can’t wait to get home from work to watch this. Just the memories of the Romains comments from the last ER have me sitting here laughing to myself.
What are you using as a palette?
Plate, sponge cloth, and baking paper. I believe Romain has a video on how to make one but I’ll be darned if I can find it.
That’s because the video is lost in the limbo of BoW… it’s very old ! I’ll try and get someone to find it again for you guys. Every tutorial, someone asks about the wet palette, on Youtube or here. I know it’s everyone’s first video, but I can’t be going through this very basic stuff every time…

It’s filed under “Tips”. Not the easiest video to find, for sure.
Thanks a lot !
good catch @locust
Found this vid on the net very similar to Romans method? If its not he will post a note saying so @aresgow2000 just to give you a idea of the method.

Yes, this is our good friend BoW Adam ! 🙂
To echo what seems to be a common opinion, these latest escaped prisoners look to be quite an improvement on the ones we saw in the earlier vids.
Out of interest what is the time gap between the two sets of painted figures ?
I believe this format is one of the best so far, I like how the interaction comes out as a personal lesson giving the video a tutor/ apprentice feel.
Fair play Justin. Your painting has come on leaps and bounds. Testament to how much neatness goes a long way to producing a good finish. Also a great advert for Romain’s tutorials.
Definitely focus on the faces and bases. These frame your mini and people get drawn to them first. I think all the base colours have been done spot on. Some tactical shading and highlighting will finish it nicely.
Faces and bases my good man.
So glad to see another 3CU vid.
Another great lesson from Romain! Also your mustache had me immediately thinking of this year’s eurovision! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWJFfnHNOWI
Oh dear ! I may shave it, then…
This was a terrible song ! 😉
Great stuff guys, really liking this format
I’ve always wondered what the term “damning with praise” meant. This video is Romain’s 101 course on “how to damn with praise” 😉
“Justin… this is actually decent”
“You’ve actually done… well on this”
“it’s above tabletop”
Haven’t seen many of your miniatures but the paint work looked ok to me as long as you think it’s the best you can do that what matters.
My painting will never be as good as Romans but if it looks ok to me that’s about as good as it will be getting by me that is.
Don’t disparage yourself… Training matters ! See what Justin has accomplished ? You can, and will, paint like me or even better, in time ! 🙂
it is nice to have a goal to dream for.
I’ve seen it happen ! We’ve all been beginners. If I didn’t think it was possible to teach you all this, I simply wouldn’t do it ! 🙂
Great video guys!
just want to say thanks for all the kind words everyone, and i think you’ll be really impressed with the final result of this series 🙂
I like the format for this episode due to the fact that Romain is not only improving the mini, but he is showing Justin what he is doing wrong.
Really fun getting to see Romain interact with the other guys at BoW. I really like the idea of having Justin sit in. Not only does he get to learn firsthand, but he’s a good proxy for us, likely asking most of the same questions we’d ask in his place. Looking forward to the next part of this one.
Great work as always guys. Really love the miniatures ER concept.
