Well that was an improvement! 🙂
just wait there is still another part to show off the mighty mage powers Romain used to bring this mini back to life 🙂
I have mage powers ?… Er… yes… I mean YES !… erm… Of course, I have !
Looking really great! I guess I will be doing some field medic repairs myself after watching this. Thanks for the great instructions.
I hope I can add a more intelligent post later . . . but for now . . . 8:40-8:45. 😀
As always, it’s not just what Romain says, but how he says it.
I especially admire how Romain does so much of his blending directly on the miniature instead of the palette. I am ** starting ** to get the hang of this in my work (I think a lot of it has to do with keeping the paints sufficiently dilute, especially when working with simple craft store acrylics like I do), but it’s always fun to see it done really well.
Great video! Damn, there’s still another part to come? He hasn’t improved this miniature enough? 😀
Thanks ! 🙂
It’s not so much blending, really, as playing with transparency… Your penance is to re-watch the technique toolbox on multiple glazes, and wet blending for good measure ! Now go and sin no more…
Augh! Chastised by the great Romain! *sniff* Standing in the corner for the rest of the class, ready to re-watch the videos after school. 😀
Remarkable stuff. Even made my wife pause and comment.
Thanks a lot everyone ! It’s so gratifying when I can be of use ! 🙂
Un-f***ing-believable. I’m just trying to paint a set of Freeboters Fate miniatures (they are really good sculpts in my opinion) to a high tabletop standard. I watched the technique toolboxes and try a combination of prebrushing, multiple glazes and then layering highlights. I manage but I make a lot of mistakes and have to correct all the time. It’s hard work. To see Romain rescue this mini with such ease of the brush just amazes me. You’re an awesome painter, who taught me a lot (and probably will teach me even more in future), but foremost made me aim for… Read more »
Wow ! That is one of the best compliments I’ve ever read ! Thanks a lot ! 🙂
Please please please tell me you are going to sort out that awful yellow hair in part 3?
Superb job on the rescue Romain.
I believe I will… but I must warn you that she remains a blonde !
Guys the play back on this was really jumpy on my iPad!
Same here. Don’t know what’s changed but it quickly got irritating which is a pity 🙁
Sorry about that… It works fine on my iPhone 4. Is it maybe a problem on your side ?
why have you used ivory and not some sort of yellow to highlight brown/red? is it just because you like it this way or is it because you wanted keep colour palete minimised?
I like keeping my palette minimised (for harmony’s sake), and I also think yellow is a bit too warm for this miniature, which already has bright primary colours. I wanted something more subdued. But sure, you can highlight with, say, Ice Yellow from Vallejo is you want… or even Frostbite from P3 which is a very light blue, to give a cold tinge to your lights ! 🙂
I’ll need to watch this tomorrow when I do my own painting when I’m doing my very own version of Painting ER… By repainting a Star Trek: Attack Wing ship.
Now they are something truly horrific.
True… About that, you might want to watch Teri litorco’s tutorials on Youtube : she repaints the ships in a simple, but effective manner, obtaining decent tabletop results.
Awesome, I watch Teri’s general gameplay videos, I’ll need to keep an eye out for her painting ones. – Thanks for the tips!
Holy cow, Romain, what a transformation. Superb.
I was wondering if you have used Army painter Strong Tone QuickShade and if you have what are your thoughts on it?
Thanks ! 🙂
I have used the Strong Tone Quickshade (in both water-based drop bottle form and “dip” form), I continue to use it on occasion when chain-painting, it is an invaluable tool… I have actually reviewed the Army Painter range on video, it’s on Beasts of War (disregard the article previously published, as it’s sorely out of date).
Many thanks, Romain, for getting back to me on this. I was thinking of buying the strong tone Quickshade for exactly the same reason; chain-painting. I was in two minds about it because of the price. However, you have helped make up my mind. 🙂
I will certainly watch your Army Painter review. As always you have been very helpful.
Hehehehehe, Romain said booobies
…
Good to hear about the quickshade, I’ve been thinking about it for a while. I purchased a bolt action briits army and have quite a few infantry minis to paint.
Amazing transformation in the later half of this video. The highlights really make the difference. Just goes to show that if the paint is kept thin enough then you always have the option of repainting.
AND I now know the correct way to pronounce Vallejo! Always learning something new on 3CU 🙂
