What do you think of their techniques? I have always struggled with painting flesh and so my Fyreslayers are probably going to be done with fiery red skin and lava boiling beneath it. I'm really interested to hear what other techniques others might employ.

I enjoyed the video and quite liked the hair/beard tips. This is, the first non-advent painting tutorial that Emma has done and she does a good job and it will produce a good finished product for any beginner or anyone else who is a dodgy painter (cough ….me)
I hope she does some more . …..Now if only I could get my mate Baz to stop refering to her as ” the Not-Duncan” .
I like that haha – ‘The Not-Duncan’. Aye I think this was a good tutorial which helped me understand painting flesh properly.
…still don’t think I’ll be able to do it as well though.
Praise to GW for giving screen time to a woman painter (and a good one at that) !
Thin down your paints, drybrush in moderation, and be as neat as possible are all excellent advice (in stark contrast with the usual Citadel method)…

I honestly can’t think of how “yawn” is a reply to what I’ve just said… I can’t even think of a context in which it’d be appropriate. I’m not even angry, or anything, I just think maybe you clicked on the wrong button or something… lol.

It’s not like GW *wouldn’t* give a woman a job … it’s just, believe it or not … women generally don’t like painting little toy soldiers: so the pool of potentials is smaller. However, when a female miniature painter does come along, she tends to be able to summon arguably more/better painting advice/quality because females tend to be naturally better at painting miniatures due to biological gender differences: they’re able – on average – to carry out intricate work better than males. Another great painting tutorial from GW, Emma sure is a charming girl and a very good painter.
It must be good times to be a noob painter now days with all these great tutorials.
She posts a fair bit of her work of facebook mini painting groups, really liked her recent Death Guard Cataphracts. I enjoy these how to videos, great for beginners.

I really do enjoy watching the painting videos they do. It’s become a strong point of the GW experience.
Nice little video and its made me like the models more.
Clear, consice tutorials that are very easy to follow and inspire confidence to make a decent job. By repeating certain instructions such as, thin paints and apply two coats, puts a voice in my head when i come to paint for myself. I’m liking what I see of GW and I haven’t for a long time. They’re producing miniatures I want to built and paint and showing me exactly how to do it.
i do believe that GW are getting better at there tutorials, whilst it is clear i do still think the presenting style is a bit naff, probably because I am a painter of 20plus years experience and not a beginner. It is really good to see a female involved in the hobby, only yesterday, I was talking to a close female friend who does not believe women get involved in wargaming.
Still without being sexist about this I think Emma is far better than Duncan at presenting.
It’s great that GW go to the effort to put out these tutorials for beginners (female or male is immaterial really).
Whether you like the style or not we all start somewhere and I think thats worth remembering.
“(female or male is immaterial really)” Perhaps this is how it should be, and i wish it were the case, but I do applaud both GW and Emma for this. And until it starts to become the norm, I think it’s defiantly worth a nod of recognition.
Hopefully it won’t be too long until it is the norm 🙂
It is how things should be Warzan and in life generally but sadly the world has a long way to go on that front as for Emma all power to her she’s confident and clear and as I said these tutorials are great for beginners, It’s good that GW go to the effort.
WS&S magazine have been using a female painter on there how to videos for quite a few years now
