I’ve been looking at these since they were released with a view to either incorporating them into a dark eldar army, or using them on some salamanders for Kings of War, and therefore massive lizards. How did you find using them overall with the brush. I remember using pearlescent acrylics 20 odd years ago and they really weren’t appropriate to miniature painting then. It looks like they should be fantastic with an airbrush but did you have much trouble just painting them on by hand?
There’s no difference between applying this with a brush and applying regular metallics with a brush. Just like with regular metallics, it may take two or three fine coats to have a uniform base, but that’s it. 🙂
you’ve swayed me with your cunning argument so I’ve ordered both sets. I mean what’s the worst that could happen?
seriously, what’s the worst comment below 😉
Mix with your hair dye?
I look fabulous and you know it… I don’t even think you’ve seen the most recent iteration of it…. or have you started editing that thing, with the stuff?
The whole industry will have shifted to pre-paints by the time you get around to using them? 😉
**ducks**
I’ll get my coat. 🙂
Harsh but entirely accurate ; )
Does this mean that a proper Rainbow Warriors SM chapter is now a realistic possibility?
I don’t see why not, but it can only be painted on classic beaky marines, none of that modern muck ^^
Agreed
Would be tempted to use these for heat damage on exhausts and gun barrels
@nakchak, I had thought about that as well, until I saw this video. I really like the burned metal effect he got with colored paints on top of the metal base. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgJIuJ8a_8k
How would they work with preshading? And how do washes work on them?
I’ve got both sets but haven’t gotten round to using them yet. Some of those colours are screaming Emperor’s Children at me! 😀
@neves1789, GSW posted this video which shows how the paint changes how it looks using a black to white gradation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7qPqBSet9c&t=331s
Oh nice, thanks for sharing!
My sets arrived on Tuesday. Looking forward to getting at some stalled projects with them. I’m with @elromanozo on using them on 40k Chaos and Eldar forces. I’d also like to have a crack at some KD:M knights and I’ve got a dragon kicking about that mights suit a two colour, colour shift paint scheme. If it comes to anything I’ll put a post up.
One word : Harlequins.
I can see this working wonder’s on the heat effects on weapon’s as well as being great on figures.
I am so glad to see these can be painted on with brushes. The YouTube videos I watched were using airbrushes with multiple coats on a black gloss undercoat.
There might be so many uses/effects. Maybe I should pause any painting till I get these…
the possibilities!
It’s a really interesting product and i can’t wait to see what cleaver ways people use it. It lacks some contrast on its own though. how well does it accept other metallic’s, or none metallics for shading and highlighting?
Very informative session, thanks @elromanozo
I liked the Red Goblin and the Storm Surge Green effects.
Great to see you again Ramon, hope to see more about this. I just put some layers down with airbrush, this stuff is great, looks much easier than by brush. Its gone on real fine with airbrush, just thin layers, and after 2 coats the colour come to live on gloss black basecoat. I wanted a Turquoise look on my new space wolves army ( because i do not like grey) and ended up with baby blue looking marines. Know i am using the PSYCOTIC ILLUSIONS, and they are gone be looking GREAT. just the colour i needed, REALLY LIKE… Read more »
