Cheers, a couple of things to add to my shopping list for Skirmish at Sidcup Sunday 🙂
I take it you use a spray on matt varnish?
Yeah generally i fix it down with a matt spray, but it may need two or three layers of pigment to build up the effect
Do you have to varnish it? I’m at the stage before applying varnish, but I kind of like the fact it is literally dusty lol
it will come off from normal contact if its not sealed in some form.
Worth saying. I’ve applied varnish with a brush to pigments and it can be very difficult. The varnish will often collect the pigments and then the brush moves them about and ruins the look. Far easier to use a spray.
As a request: a future tutorial of how to apply and FIX pigments to create different effects. Such as; how to fix pigments when creating a ‘dusty’ look, how to use pigments for a ‘wet muddy’ look etc.
I’ve spent a lot of time (and made many errors) trying to work this out.
Me and you both dude 😉
Another cool little video for these. Thanks!
Nice video as usual.
How about one showing rust effects
Fast and effective. Used an old pencil graphite to get the same effect a few years back.
It should be considered the duty if all of us. Anyone who spots a pristine vehicle on the table top should introduce the owner of the offending vehicle to the wonders of weathering powders and sprays and Johns vids 🙂
Blueing, despite the name, is really black.
If it seems to have a silvery sheen, it’s because the blueing is worn and bare metal is showing through.
graphite pencil over Vallejo model air German Cam Black Brown gives a really good ‘real’ metal worn look and Vallejo Dark steel pigment over the same colour then a gentle ‘Buffing’ with a cloth or cotton bud works well………..just my 10 pence worth!
nice tip thnx
I am loving this series cannot wait to see more!
Cool tutorial John. 🙂
Nice and quick but not as metallic as painting then highlighting I think or is the camera just not getting it.
