Great one as always Romain, shall have to show this to my mate who is starting Cygnar and would love a good blue colour scheme.
Quick question Romain if i may, when you blend the highlights, do you first wait till the basecoat is dry? or blend it all in when its still wet? Everytime i try and blend it ends up a sloppy mess and whilst drybrushing is fine for most of my army, i would like a better standard on my leaders.
Great work as always, even if its an ultrasmurf 😉
Ah but now its a Cygnarsmuf 😉
Usually, I’m not patient enough, and I end up messing stuff up just like you do… Still, the proper way to do it is thus : You “should” always wait for the basecoat to dry before shading and/or highlighting. You “should” always wait for ANY coat to dry before applying the next one. Working with thin, dilute coats of paint and not having much on your brush will help a lot, and it’ll dry more quickly. Attempting to blend two colors directly on or with the basecoat is hazardous, but feasible with a lot of expertise… It’s usually best to… Read more »
Oh I think you’re pretty damn patient enough next to some. Remember when ultramarine blue came in a spray can? Most of my ultramarines were done that way, and the ones that weren’t are mostly even worse.
Thank you @cazboab !
I’m all for spray cans ! It saves you so much time for armies…
It doesn’t means a sprayed mini has to be lower in quality : You can go from the sprayed-on basecoat just as easily as I did from the painted basecoat.
One of these days I’ll do an article on army painting…
Since I’m new to the Warhammer world, I would like to know what makes a table top figure different than one for display in terms of how it should be painted.
The difference is subjective, and mainly one of quality…
Tabletop is usually painted with less care, more quickly, and with attention to the effect the minis will give off together as units, rather than displayed on a shelf : little or no detail, only the most noticeable features detailed, no tedious blending or time consuming techniques.
That’s about it !
Many thanks for your quick response, now I have an idea on how to paint for display purpose and also thanks for been an inspiration to us newbies. I was wondering if you have plans on making a video on painting Spaceships such as the IG Valkyrie.
Best Regards
Big beasties are always a problem for tutorials with my painting style… But I will do some about Speed Painting at some point, including larger models.
Thanks dude you are the man… 🙂
